The VG-R series
GIEBEL Adsorbers® of the VG-R series are reusable oil mist separators without valves. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor use on hydraulic power packs, gearboxes, barrels & IBC.
The plastic housing is filled with 0.1kg to 3.0kg of activated carbon. Combined with a slosh guard and oil demister, the activated carbon cleans the air exiting the unit, protecting the environment from oil aerosol contamination. When the adsorber is saturated (discoloration of the white silica gel layer), both the activated carbon bed and, if necessary, all other components of the internal system can be replaced at low cost. VG-R adsorbers are used on turbo gearboxes, test benches and recirculating oil lubrication systems.

Mode of operation

Adsorbtion – Separation of oil particles
- The level in the system increases
- Oily air is squeezed out
- Slosh protection and demister prevent oil drops and finer oil particles from escaping from the system
- Glass fiber filter separates further particles
- Activated carbon absorbs finest oil aerosols
Oil-free exhaust air

Desorption – Filtration of supply air
- The level in the system decreases
- Polluted air is sucked in
- Pre-filter disc prevents the ingress of larger dirt particles
- Air flows pressureless into adsorber
- Glas fibre filter filters air to 3μm
Dry and clean supply air

Flowchart
Overpressure in the system forces the air through the two-stage slosh protection. Here, the large oil particles are blocked and drip back into the system. The subsequent demister is used for condensation of larger oil particles, which stick to it, condense and also drip back.
Finer particles are separated at the 3µm glass fiber filter and returned to the tank. Only the finest oil aerosols end up in the high bulk activated carbon. The 4mm cylindrical pellets adsorb all remaining particles and thus protect the environment from contamination. At the end of the adsorber life cycle, the bottom white silica gel layer turns a brownish oil-like color, indicating the end of the operating interval.
Due to the valveless design and multi-stage separation, this adsorber has a high efficiency for separating particles from the system to the environment and a low differential pressure.
VG-R adsorbers are made of polycarbonate, polyamide, aluminium, activated carbon as well as FKM seals and can be used for the deaeration of all common hydraulic and gear oils, lubricants, fuels and isocyanates.

Spare part kits

Sustainability starts with using product components for as long as their life cycle allows and replacing only those components that show signs of wear. With our spare parts kits for the refillable adsorber series, we ensure that you can replace each individual component of an adsorber as needed.
For example, the desiccant in our adsorbers becomes loaded during use, increasingly loses its ability to adsorb moisture and needs to be replaced, but the adsorber housing is particularly durable. Our refillable adsorbers can therefore be easily opened and the desiccant replaced. Seals, particle filters & activated carbon discs, on the other hand, can withstand a few replacement cycles, depending on the load. However, we recommend replacing them after 4-5 replacement cycles at the latest to ensure smooth operation of the adsorbers.
Our spare parts kits include seals, particle filters, activated carbon discs and other components that match the respective adsorber series. The matching desiccants for the adsorbers are available separately and in different size classes.
